Obituary for Frances Kirkland Jackson

NEWVILLE. . .Frances Kirkland Jackson, a resident of Newville, died early Thursday morning, June 1, 2023, in UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Charles D. “Chuck” Jackson and Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nick’s Kids Foundation, 1130 University Boulevard, Suite B9-201, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
Frances Jackson was born and reared in Newville, daughter of the late Hugh Dudley Kirkland, Sr. and Betty Shelley Kirkland. She was a 1966 graduate of Newville High School and received a B. S. Degree in Education in 1970 from the University of Alabama. Frances also attended Huntingdon College and Troy University. She retired from the Henry County Department of Human Resource as a Social Worker. In earlier years, Frances taught at Grove Hill Elementary School and Abbeville Elementary School. She also served as Newville Town Clerk for ten years. Frances was a member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Dothan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Jackson, Sr., and a brother, Dudley Kirkland.
Surviving relatives include a step-daughter, Candace Jackson Hanners (Fred), Wicksburg; a step-son, Charles D. “Chuck” Jackson, Jr., Dothan; two sisters, Janet Guest (David), Hoover, AL; and Lisa Kirkland, Donalsonville, GA; three brothers. Alban B. “Bubba” Kirkland, Newville; James E. “Hap” Kirkland (Debby), Foley, AL; and Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. (Kathy), Newville; a sister-in-law, Alma Kirkland, Dubach, LA; three grandchildren, Katie Ann Hanners, Will Hanners, and Charles D. “Chip” Jackson, III; numerous Kirkland and Jackson nieces and nephews who were very special to Frances; sisters-in-law from the Jackson family, Jessie Jackson O’Neal, Mary Jean Jackson and Jeri Cox Jackson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Barkley Kirkland, Will Hanners, Cleve Kirkland, Garrick Kirkland, Hugh Kirkland, III, Harrison Mullen and Daniel Guest.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Amanda Rhodes for the loving care and kindness shown to Frances during her illness.
