Obituary for Gerald Sidney Granberry

HEADLAND. . .Gerald Sidney Granberry, (GMG3, U. S. Navy, Retired), a resident of Headland, died Friday morning, March 10, 2023, in the Clifford Chester Sims Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Calloway, Florida. He was 84.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, between Headland & Columbia, with Pastor John Holley and Reverend Ted Forrester officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/e Edwin M. Glover, 6952 State Highway 134, East, Columbia, AL 36319,.
Gerald Granberry was born and reared in the Granberry Crossroads Community of Henry County, son of the late Sidney Carroll Granberry and Rosalie Ziglar Granberry. At an early age, he enlisted in the Army National Guard in the Headland unit which was activated during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Granberry enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1965 and retired in 1981 with the rank of GMGS. While serving in the Navy, he served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Mr. Granberry was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Betty Irwin Granberry and Dorothy Posey Granberry.
Surviving relatives include his brother, James Frank Granberry (Carolyn), Headland; several step-children from Betty Granberry and Dorothy Granberry family, two nieces, Melissa Taylor (Kevin), and Amy Preston (Michael), a nephew, Brian Granberry (Beverly), five great-nieces and great-nephews; a special friend, Deborah Larsen and her son, Tyler Larsen, his special caregiver, Ashley Bradley, Headland.
