Obituary for James Franklin Granberry

HEADLAND. . .James Franklin “Frank” Granberry, a resident of Headland, died Monday afternoon, December 18, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2023, in the Hebron Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Baker officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, South, Birmingham, AL 35213.
Frank Granberry was born and reared in the Granberry Crossroads community of Henry County, son of the late Sidney Carroll Granberry and Rosalie Ziglar Granberry. He was a 1959 graduate of Headland High School. At an early age, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from 1959 until 1963. He lived in Charleston, South Carolina thirty-one years before returning to Henry County in 1996. Frank was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard as an Electronics Technician. After retirement, Frank was employed by Houston County as a Maintenance Technician. He was an avid Alabama football fan. Frank was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald S. Granberry.
Surviving relatives includes his wife, Carolyn Hall Granberry; two daughters, Melissa Taylor (Kevin), Headland; and Amy Preston (Michael), Summerville, SC; a son, Brian Granberry (Beverly), Dothan; grandchildren, Rhenabeth Root (Tanner), Shelby Root (Caitlyn), Colby Root (Sierra), Amber Preston, Jacob Preston (Sarah) and Samantha Hoekenga (Andy), Samantha Pendleton; great-grandchildren, Samuel Root, Ariel Root, Blakley Root, Dakota Preston, Adam Hoekenga, Adler Hoekenga, Alyssa Pendleton, Jude Pendleton and two great-grandchildren on the way.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Shelby Root, Colby Root, Jacob Preston, Michael Preston, Kevin Taylor, and Tanner Brockett.
